Well done to all involved in the game today, especially our visitors for not giving in and battling on to the end.

09.10.16
Mellish U14s V Chesterfield Panthers
80 - 10

1st half
Chesterfield started by kicking off to Mellish. Mellish’s winger makes a clean catch and then runs through all of the Chesterfield team and scored a try. This then set up the pattern for the half which saw Mellish exercise complete dominance on the game. As a result of Chesterfield offering little resistance, when Mellish were in possession of the ball, they just launched for the try line. This dominance and type of play resulted in the boys running over lots of tries producing a 54-0 score line before the half was finished.

2nd half

At the half time break, so that Mellish could learn more from the game, the coaches took off the strongest players. This meant that Mellish then played more as a team, passing the ball more, stepping up to make the tackles etc. After the changes, Mellish were still dominant in the 2nd half but Chesterfield offered up a little bit more resistance and even managed to sneak in 2 tries. This half saw Mellish score a further 4 tries before the game finished.

Try scorers: Nathan – 1 Brandon – 1 Joe Olver – 1 Myles - 2
Michael – 1 Declan – 1 Tyrece – 2 Oli S – 3

Successful conversions: Jack.S – 7. Tom H – 3

Manager’s thoughts,
Thank you very to our opponents today. We all realise the hard work put in to running a team and how difficult it can be when you are conceding lots of tries. The Chesterfield lads will come good due to their never say die team spirit. It is evident to all of us that we have moved on a level this year and we can field a team who are playing good competitive rugby. Well done to the experienced lads who are helping to bring on some new editions to the squad. Declan and Fin both had great games in attack and defence.

Man of the match.
Declan Mohammed. Did well in an unfamiliar position. A great solo try backed up with some very strong tackles.
