Well done to both teams on a strong and very competitive game of rugby.

16.10.16
Mellish v Lincoln
10 - 10
1st Half
Mellish started by kicking off to Lincoln, and the lads followed up the kick with good line speed and pressure. The first 15 mins is played mainly in the middle of the field, reflecting how evenly matched the two sides are. With a wet pitch to contend with, there are the inevitable handling errors as a result of the wet ball. However, the first blood drawn (not literally) goes to Lincoln, as they get the first try (unconverted). This was a result of sustained pressure from a confident looking Lincoln side, which pounced on the ball first, when the ball was lose in the Mellish try scoring area.

2nd Half
Mellish score an unconverted try early doors, courtesy of our centre Oli, after Mellish found themselves with space and possession close to the Lincoln try line, after a long run from the fullback. The second half continued in the same vain as the first, with both teams being well matched. Lincoln, however, did seem to have clear advantage in the scrums, winning the lion’s share of them Mellish were clearly missing their big prop in this department.
With determination from Lincoln and a bit of confusion from Mellish (about their exit strategy), Lincoln got their 2nd unconverted try. Mellish hit back quickly and got their 2nd unconverted try courtesy of the full back, by the corner flag. Both teams then tried to deliver the winning blow (in the form of a late try), but never quite managed it. In the end, a very good game against 2 well matched teams, with the score line reflecting this.

Managers comments

A great game of rugby between two evenly matched teams. Both teams tackled well and because of the heavy rain the handling of the ball was difficult. Two good tries, one from Oli Stimson and one from Tyler-Jay Chinyemba.

Man of the match. Myles Henson. In spite of the poor handling conditions Myles ,playing at fly half, made every effort to get the ball moving and when called on made some important tackles
