Solid victory at Ashfield

The current squad size continues to grow with the addition of Ryan last week; now at 26 players.
Even with the injury list growing recently, Mellish were still able to field 19 players today.

The transition in the 2nd half of the season has seen many changes to where boys have played since January; the coaching staff feel that all the boys who have joined since Xmas are now starting to find their true position and summer training will get ALL the boys ready for next season's competition.....back to this year though.

Shaquille played with an injured hand but his pace still frightened the opposition and Dan played with a dodgy ankle but still commanded as FullBack; well done guys.

William Jude played for the first time (@ No 10) and gave a good account of himself; offloading ball to good effect whenever needed.
Aiden G continued his journey as Hooker to good effect.
Oscar made his debut as a 2nd half sub .....good to get some game time.
Tom has taken to the number 9 role very nicely ...well done Tom.

Aiden was back to his aggressive but controlled best and deserved his Man of the Match Award.

The boys got off to a great start and Ryan Hudson ran in a try half the length of the field; his first try for the club; the first of many I am sure.

Solid rucking and constant pressure on the Ashfield back line were the key successes of the first half with excellent team tries scored by the forwards Jack, Jonathon and Henry.
Dan converted 75%; well done Dan the Man.

The scoreline flattered Mellish in the fact that Ashfield made some solid tackles and the game was played at a good pace by both teams; stealing ball at critical moments were the difference between the teams in the first 25 mins.

The 2nd half was played at a similar pace where Rucking and quickness to the loose ball were signs of good technique from the Mellish boys; even the ref commented on the aggressiveness and technical ability of our Rucking today; good praise and something that we need to build upon for the rest of the season.

Going slighty up hill in the 2nd half Mellish rarely looked troubled and were commanding with ball in hand. The Ashfield boys never gave up the fight and were unfortunate to be on the end of a nil scoreline; their togetherness and application deserved more reward.
The Mellish boys continued to enjoy the day, playing with smiles on their faces, a key ingredient of todays play.

The physicality and strength of the PACK with ball in hand started to show and Charlie ran in 3 tries in the 2nd half ably assisted and supported by his team mates.
Dan converted all 3 to make it 6 in 7 today.
Final score 47 - 0.
