As we hit the half term break it’s a good time to come up for air and reflect on the start of the season for Mellor’s Junior Boys team
Our U16s, playing under the merged Stellor team, have had a solid start to the season winning 2 of their 3 games. It’s been great to see the boys gel so well this year under the excellent coaching from Luca and Will. 2 strong wins against Sheffield and Liverpool sandwiched a tough loss to a strong Heaton Mersey team. Team spirit is high and the season ahead is rosy despite some tough opposition.
Following their excellent tour to Frankfurt, our U14s maintain their 100% record with 4 wins from 4. We know how strong this team is, but we continue to provide players to Poynton each week and, where possible, with our oppositions when they’re light on players. This weekend’s game against Brooklands saw 6 of our players don the dark blue of Brooklands and it benefitted everyone enormously. It’s nice to win – but not at all costs. Early wins against Cheadle / Cheadle Hulme and Norbury leaves us looking forward to games against the likes of Timperley and Stockport where we can really assess where we are as a squad.
And to our U12s who continue as they did last year. A large squad is being excellently managed by John Howie and the arrival of our new boys from U10s has been seamless. John has these boys playing lacrosse in the right way despite some tricky fixture scheduling but, with 5 wins from 5, they look good to carry on from their great work last year. We’re delighted that several of these boys will be going forward to Metros trials and continuing our tradition with this fantastic exchange programme in Maryland USA.
Some of our U10 and U8 sessions have been hit by the weather but, from what we can see, the flow of talent continues. Rob, Chris and Alex, along with our willing U19 and U16 helpers, are building the basics with a great bunch of boys - some tournaments will come soon boys!
So boys, enjoy half term – we’ve even cancelled some training sessions for you! We know you’ll have all taken your sticks on holidays so come back fresh and ready to pick up where you left off!
