Mighty Mellor Girls

The Junior girls have had a fantastic season, with U15 winning the league and U13 finishing second. This weekend the girls iced the cake at the Manchester Challenge coming home as U15s and U11s champions and U13s runners up.

The U13s kicked things off on Saturday with a strong win against Heaton Mersey (12-1) followed by a loss to Timperley (3-6). They fought back with a win against Cheadle (4-3) and Brooklands (14-3) to secure a place in the semis where they faced Cheadle again winning (3-2) to take Mellor to the final. The final against Timperley was always going to be a tough game. The girls fought hard, but it was Timperley's day and despite a valiant effort Mellor had to be content with silver.

On Sunday, Mellor girls entered the U11s tournament. Despite few regular competitive matches, they had notably won their only other tournament earlier in the season. This success was to be repeated, as they reached the final winning all but one of their group matches Heaton Mersey (5-2), Timperley (5-3), Cheadle (10-3)- a very tight loss to Stockport (1-3) - who they faced in the final. It was a nail biting finale, 1-1 at half time, the girls never gave up and eventually triumphed 3-2 - a testament to their developing skills, determination and great team spirit.

Meanwhile the U15s had won their group with a 100% record and reached a semi final against Brooklands. A 4-1 victory took them to the final against a tough Oxton team who lead through the first half to 3-3 at half time. But Mellor were only just warming up and in the end a skillfull team performance delivered a comprehensive 6-3 victory. What a great way to finish the weekend!
