A powerful early start against a well drilled Timperley team

Going for a possible fourth game in a row and coming off the back of a tough, hard won game against Stockport the previous week, the boys were up for another battle against an unpredictable Timperley.
The game started well with Jamie popping in an early goal followed by a goal from Jack Royle. Another goal from Jamie followed a great feed by George and we were well on the way. The defence were looking strong yet again and Oli Plant was really working hard, winning balls and making a real impression in midfield. With a couple more from Jamie and a goal from George the boys had a great first quarter which ended with us six goals up.
Josh won the first face-off of the second quarter after a tough scrap for the ball and went on to score the first goal of the quarter. Mellor continued to look strong with a further goal for Jamie followed by a great goal from James. Timperley were starting to threaten with a couple of great attempts denied by Ned’s “cat like” reactions in goal. Similar to the style of the “Mighty Man City” whenever Timperley got the ball they were quickly surrounded and dispossessed with the Mellor boys showing a real determination to dominate. 9 – 0 at the end of the second quarter.
With Timperley still to break the deadlock they started to look more threatening in the 3rd quarter and were frustrated on three separate occasions, hitting the left post, right post and then the crossbar before their first goal finally came. It was a great shot that Ned could do little about. No goals for Mellor in this quarter. Game on!
The final quarter saw Josh taking and winning face-off’s. Again the defence remained strong with Alex and Will working hard to win balls and Joey and Oli making some great runs and feeding the attack to give Mellor the edge as we started to turn the tide again. A magnificent run by Alex took him passed a number of Timperley players and put him in a scoring position but it just went over the crossbar (difficult to keep the ball down with a long pole and under such pressure from their defence). Jack Latham was also denied at the end of a great run but sprits remained high.
Timperley were fighting hard to get back into it and scored 3 good goals this quarter, however with a goal from Jamie, Jack, a couple of hard-won goals from Oli and yet another for the exceptional George the game was won as Jamie popped in the last for Mellor to finish off a convincing performance and maintain our unbeaten run this season.
Timperley 4 - Mellor 15
