An understrength U14s come up short at Cheadle
By Martin Mochan
Tough run out as we take a depleted team away for the 1st game of 2019
A cold but dry morning in Cheadle for the first game of the New Year
The boys started well with a goal from Josh, assisted by Jack Royal within 10 seconds of the first face off.
Cheadle / Sheffield (CS) responded with a goal from their number 30, followed by a couple of good goals form Oli to put Mellor 3-2 up. Things were looking pretty good when CS scored a third to end the quarter 3 all.
CS began to look strong in attack and their defence began to get organised in the second quarter. Mellor struggled to get the ball in the back of the CS net denied by a couple of good saves by their goalkeeper. At the other end of the field the opposition were looking more and more threatening and the second quarter ended with them in front by 3 goals.
The 3rd quarter continued in much the same way and although the boys were working hard, they couldn’t break through a strong defence. Another goal from Josh in the third Quarter assisted once again by Jack Royal helped but the game was getting away from the Mellor boys and the quarter ended CS 10 – 4 up.
Some good running by Oli Plant and Sam Simms wasn’t rewarded with goals. Ned made a few more good saves but the final quarter saw CS put in another 4 goals and it was all over. A good natured game and a great run around for the boys to blow away the Christmas cobwebs.
Onwards and upwards now for the rest of the 2018/19 season.
Cheadle / Sheffield 14 – Mellor 4
