U16s lose 12-4 to Norbury/Cheadle
By Austin Brady
Valiant effort by the team not enough as the opposition prove too clinical in front of goal.
This was always going to be a tough test against a more or less full strength squad, with their key attacking players now back in action.
The boys showed they were up for the task today and all gave 100% throughout. For large periods of the game we handled their attacking threat well and were organised in defence, with Will back to his best today in goal when they did get shooting opportunities. In attack we weren't at full strength and at times that showed as we didn't get enough shots on goal as we should have done. If we had the scoreline would likely have been much closer.
The first half was a close and tight affair and goals were at a premium. Both sides defended well and the attacks lacked a bit of cutting edge as they ended the half 3-1 in front with a good Sam finish being our reward. The 3rd qtr is where the game was won by them as they won it 5-1 to lead 8-2, with clinical finishing on their part while we passed up a number of good opportunities on the break to test their keeper. A Luke goal was our only reward. The final qtr saw us pull it back to 9-4 as Matt and Ben T got on the scoresheet before, for the first time in defence today, we lost concentration to concede 3 fairly soft goals late on to give a final score of 12-4.
Despite being hammered again at face, where we won just 1 plus 2 fouls all game, and playing against a good team with a couple of stand out players at this level all of the boys can be proud of their efforts this week.
Goals: Sam, Matt, Ben T, Luke - 1 each.
