U16s lose 6-5 to Timperley

A disjointed display sees Stellor knocked out of the Plate in the semi final
A game we never really got to grips with today for some reason. Defensively we were solid for the most part with a few indvidual errors leading to a number of their goals. Our attacking game was were we really lost it as the tempo was way too slow for a semi final and decision making and execution of passes and shots below the levels we have reached in recent weeks.
A cagey opening was expected as the teams sought to work each other out and a 1-0 qtr score, with a Drew goal, was our only reward. A goal from Luke extended this before a Timperley response to leave us 2-1 up at half time. At that stage we still looked in control and generally more threatening but with wayward passing or shooting letting us down.
The start of the 3rd was where it started to go wrong. A poor turnover led to a man down situation for us and in that time Timperley scored 2 to take a 3-2 lead. That briefly kicked us into gear as we upped the temp and 2 goals from Luke saw us regain the lead before an equaliser at the death from Timperley to leave it at 4-4.
The 4th quarter was poor. Rather than stepping it up we let Timperley dominate the tempo of the game and we were soon 4-5 down and looking short of ideas in posession. A goal from Ben T from distance levelled it once again but soon after we went to sleep at the other end as they took a 6-5 lead. With the clock running down, and under 2 mins to go, we had a final attack with Matt finding the net to "draw" us level at 6-6. With so little time left, Timperley called a stick check and the goal was unfortunately chalked off for a deep pocket.
Not the best way for a close game to be decided at junior lacrosse, and not for the first time this season in the cup for the club, but in truth the general performance today was the reason we lost and on the day we didn't play to our potential and the better team won.
Goals: Luke (3), Ben.T and Drew 1 each
