Mellor Hosts its 1st Under 10's tournament

On Sunday 21st May Mellor hosted its first under 10’s tournament and welcomed 14 teams from across Cheshire. The sun shone, until the end, and our 3 teams did us proud.
Our 1st team followed in the footsteps of our U12’s going unbeaten all day by winning all 5 of their matches, narrowly beating our B team in the finale match despite some dubious tactics by Rick Shonfeld!
Our 2nd team came up against some stiff competition but played with big smiles on their faces and sneaked a great draw against Timperley as they improved throughout each game – no mean feat considering most of the players they played against regularly play field lacrosse for their clubs.
We also fielded a team of first timers who had never played in tournament conditions and, despite an average age of 7, they won as many games as they lost – well done to all of the children.
Lots of work goes into these events so big thanks to…. Andy Hussey for marking out the pitches and preparing the club, Rich Noble for constructing gazebos, Trudi Combey and Cath Brady for organising all of the catering, Glendale Foods for generously providing all of the BBQ food at no cost to the club and all of the parents who helped throughout the day to make Martin, Rick and Paul’s lives easy.
We’re already gearing up for our next tournament in May at Norbury and we’re rightly proud that close to 30 children now attend junior pop lacrosse every Sunday, come rain or shine!
We hope that there will be further tournaments in June and July too before we finish for the season on June 30th.
