This is possibly the stand-out tie in the first qualifying round of the JD Welsh Cup, as we face local rivals CPD Bangor 1876 at Treborth on Saturday 10th July with a 2pm kick-off.
The sides have met just once before, in the Tarian Goffa Bob Owen Memorial Shield on a cold afternoon in January 2020. A crowd of nearly 300 at Maes y Coed saw Tigers take an early lead through Dale Owens, before 1876 eventually ran out 5-1 winners.
Saturday's match will be played in very different circumstances; the large artificial surface at Treborth 3G should produce a great spectacle, but sadly due to Covid-19 restrictions the spectators permitted inside the enclosed ground is limited to 169 - please see the Bangor 1876 website and social media pages for further information for spectators.
Menai Bridge will be hoping that the result is also different, and Aaron Rowlands's men certainly look a stronger outfit with the new arrivals since that last match. Tigers are in strong form, having started the season by beating Gwalchmai 5-0 on Monday with a hat-trick from Callum Davidson and a brace from Dean Redmond.
Bangor have also made a strong start to the season, having won their opening league fixture 9-0 against Pentraeth, and overcoming Pwllheli 3-2 in midweek despite playing the majority of the second half with 10 men. The home side will be looking to make a mark in this competition, having reached the Second Round in 2019/20 before bowing out to Cymru North side Ruthin Town.
Menai Bridge have not had much luck in the Welsh Cup since reforming; failing to progress beyond the first qualifying round on each occasion - however it must be pointed out that the draw has not been kind to Tigers, with an away tie against higher league opposition each time.
There have been some key changes to this year's competition, notably the scrapping of extra-time. Any matches that remain level after 90 minutes will go straight to a penalty shoot-out.
