After 2 weeks of no game due to one reason or another, we had an early start to Harlech. Meeting time was 11am for a planned departure time of 11.15am… but there are always the stragglers… no names mentioned but they are the usual suspects’ lol…
The squad today were missing Tom Davies (away), Tom Parry (working) and Tim Evans (XXXXX) (Tim can explain lol), but we welcomed new signing Jamie Aston into the match day squad for the 1st time.
The first 10-15 mins of the game we looked very much off the pace and were lucky when Harlech had half a chance when the ball was whipped across the box only for the in rushing forward to miss the ball by millimetres.
18 mins Callum Davidson won the ball out wide and cut inside and beat a couple of Harlech defender before shooting from the edge of the box.. From where we were standing it was going straight into the bottom corner, the Harlech keeper had other ideas and pushed the ball round the post. Both teams started to get organised for the corner when to everyone's amazement the referee pointed for a goal kick.
Dion Williams and Ryan Wood had the beating of the full backs, but the final ball was missing or a Harlech defender would manage to get a toe to it.
On 28 mins Callum Davidson won the ball in midfield and charged towards the box and from the edge of the box he smashed a left foot rocket passed the keeper.. Callum’s 1st of the season.
Less than 60 seconds later the ball was hoofed up the pitch by a Harlech defender and their no 10 was clean through on goal… as he attempted to go passed Lee, Lee’s outstretched hands took out the forward and the ref had no option but to award a penalty and book Lee for the foul…
Penalty was smashed towards Lee’s right hand side and hit the post.. Lee tried to claim a that he saved the pen on the bus on the way home as he was 100% sure that he pushed the ball onto the post..
Gethin Davies and Jamie Aston were controlling the midfield and giving Callum Davidson the freedom to go looking for the ball. The back four of Owain Roberts, Dale Owens, Richard Evans and Tm Scorer were winning every tackle and header that came their way.
We started to dominate the rest the first half when we scored 3 similar goals in 6 minutes and put the tie to bed.
38 mins – a corner from Callum Davidson was cleared out wide where Dion Williams chased the ball down and played a lovely pass to Jamie Aston who’s first time cross into the box was met by head of Gareth Barker (fox in the box) and glanced the ball passed the keeper.
42 mins – another corner for Callum Davidson who whipped it towards the penalty spot where Richard Evans ran in and with a peach of a header had the beating of the keeper only for Gareth Barker to re-direct the ball to the other corner.
Another corner on 44mins was taken by... You guessed it Callum Davidson, by now they had put two players on Richard Evans to try and stop him getting his head on the ball.. Plan worked on stopping Beno getting to the ball but nobody picked up our other centre half Tom Scorer who rose above everyone else and powered home a header.
Half Time - Harlech Town 0 – 4 Menai Bridge Tigers
Within 3 minutes of the start of the second half we scored our 4 goal of the match from a corner , Callum Davidson put a pinpoint corner into the near post and a Harlech defender attempted to clear it onto to smash the ball passed his own keeper to make it 5 -0
We dominated the rest of the game but didn’t score anymore goals, but managed to give some players valuable game time with
Dave Roberts replacing Callum Davidson on 57 mins
Andy Wannop replacing Gareth Barker on 64mins
Callum Byng replacing Jamie Aston on 67mins
