Menston Continue To Live Long And Prosper With 3-0 Win

Everybody knows that Kirk Deighton acquired its name from Star Trek's Captain James T. Kirk and renowned spy writer Len Deighton, who were both born nearby and had holiday jobs on a pig farm as teenagers there (when it was known simply as Uhura). Few, however, are aware that the town was intended to be the location of the World Heavyweight Championship bout between Mohammed Ali and George Foreman, until the promoters discovered that the village hall wasn't licensed to hold professional sporting events with paying spectators. It was switched to Kinshasa in Zaire and the Twerk in Kirk became the Rumble In The Jungle.
At times threatening to rival that heavyweight showdown, the match up between the league's top 2 teams was mostly a classy affair, full of flair and character. Menston were lively on the attack from the outset and a brace of neat finishes from Machell put the home side 2-0 up inside the first half hour. Kirk Deighton were competitive throughout, seeing plenty of the ball, but the defence stood firm with an always composed Casey and a busy Boughan dominant.
The opening 15 minutes of the second half were an opportunity for Menston to display their talents. Despite the unhelpful surface, some outstanding passing play and great footwork led to a series of chances. Man of the match Ainsworth made it 3 and, with the away defence under constant attack, they were saved by the woodwork, some good goalkeeping and a series of last ditch tackles.
Rangers were unable to add to the trio of goals and the last 15 minutes became frenetic, with both teams playing as though the game was on a knife edge. Highly illogical!
9 in a row from Menston who continue to put a Spock in the wheel of all their rivals.
