Rangers moved into the 2nd round of the League Cup with a comfortable away win at Division D, Wilsden Wildcats, to start the defence of the trophy they won in May this year.
Despite a rather large final scoreline, the game was played in good spirits and a lot of credit has to go to Wilsden who never gave up and continued to get the ball down and play. Menston made many changes at half time, going in 7-0 up and with the tie effectively over; in an attempt to even up the second half.
Goalkeeper Alex T played all of the 2nd half in midfield, with 5-6 other players as a minimum playing in positions they rarely occupy normally.
It did little to temper the flow and hats must go off to the team who played some excellent football throughout. Rangers had been threatening to score a few goals for a few weeks now; with 4 of the goals in particular being quite spectacular from Theo B, a wonderful left footed strike with power into the top corner, a similar strike from Harrison T, a wonderful right foot curling effort for Szymon P from 25 yards out; and a rocket again from outside the area from Charlie M.
Other scorers, a number from well worked, sharp approach play, came from Marc A (5), Szymon P, Harrison T, Charlie M, Alex T (2) and Ethan L.
The Wilsden keeper made some wonderful point blank saves for which he was applauded for by all present and all players, parents and officials witnessed a game played in great spirit by all parties regardless.
Menston now play Baildon Trinity in Round 2.
