Emphatic Performance Drives MVP to 1st Round Proper !!

On a very historic day for Meridian VP, the club made its first ever appearance in the much coveted FA VASE Trophy away to St. Francis Rangers FC.

Arriving on a beautiful day and taking in the surroundings of this neat little ground which has its own unique character nestled away in the former hospital grounds and the hospital rising above in the background.

No time was lost as kick off started where credit must go to the home side with a string of new players by the looks of it started with a goal on the 7 minute with poor defending. MVP still in changing rooms it looked like but the reply was precise and immediate with a great ball from an attacking movement down MVP left by Hawkins who applied a sublime cross for McDermott to finish off a superb move heading the end product, Goal ! 1-1

Credit goes to the home side who got up and carried on, but it was MVP who actually controlled the passing and possession which eventually told on the 22 minute with a passage of play through the middle by Whyte who in turned put through a great defence splitting ball to McDermott who in turn did not hesitate by putting past the goalkeeper. 1 - 2

Not a moment too soon MVP were on the up and immediately won possession back by Hawkins gaining a corner. Hawkins who then supplied another quality ball for McDermott's 3rd goal on the 25th minute got his hatrick and well deserved. 1 -3

MVP putting the home side to the sword as on the 33rd minute it was Whyte turn again till slip in a through ball from the middle after good build up from the MVP back line to Hawkins who finished his opportunity emphatically. 1 - 4

MVP pressure continued and it was on the 44th minute where hard working Gary Phillimore put his shift in and won the ball then with an instant a diagonal ball to McDermott in space who beat the on coming defenders applying a cool finish, 1 - 5

With all the endeavours the home side did not recind in their challenge to claw the game back where the score line remained at half time.

MVP come out 2nd half with a sense of comfort but again the home side have other ideas. within the first 10 minutes create numerous chances with a more attacking style. This paid off on the 60th minute with their 2nd of the match.

Finally, awaking the comfort zone MVP were in the players then started to apply them selves in the correct manner again.

It was on the 65th minute where a run from Ward from right back charged towards the home side goal by passing several players and then got his shot off only to be thwarted by a very good save form the home goalkeeper who parried, only for the sharp minded McDermott to bury the game out of sight with his fifth of the game. 2 - 6

MVP continued applying the possession game and eventually left to Elmes to facilitate a great through ball on the left from the centre circle to Hawkins who beat his marker and on coming defender to finish his 2nd goal of the game. 2 - 7

The game was eventually seen out with chances from the home side to which resolute defending from MVP made sure the away club were in the 1st Round Proper of The FA VASE.

We would like to thank the home side for their sportsmanship and hospitality after the game and wish them all the best for the future !

Meridian VP FC now meet Lordswood FC at home in the next round on the 31st October 2015 KO 3PM.
