A Worldy Goal Was The Only Separation Between Two Good Sides ..!!

Games are now coming thick and fast at this late stage of the season. Off the back of our defeat at Sheppey we faced another tough game at home to Bearsted.

MVP’S management demanded more from their charges and for most of this encounter were given a good performance by the #skyblues (even though for the record we were in Red for this match).

Both sides started the game well and some very competitive tackling ensued in the midfield area. Where the game seemed to be camped for the majority of the first half . MVP’s best chance in the first period fell to pacy striker McGinty a neat ball from Brown saw him outpace the Bears defence and hit a low shot which the keeper saved well with his legs. Also Brown had a fizzer just past the post following decent approach play by Hawkins.
Bearsted showed plenty of attacking intent but hadn’t carved out any noteworthy opportunities. Other than a deflected shot that went wide and a decent free kick effort that Kidman pushed away to his right.

Half time 0-0 Up to now if this had been a horse race then MVP would have won by a neck...

Bearsted came out stronger in the second half and pushed MVP back well. However, it took a goal of outstanding quality to open the scoring. Bearsted’s left back Flisher picked the ball up some 30 yards out and hit a right footed dipper that beat Kidman all ends up. 1-0 to the Bears..this took some wind out off the home sides sails as the work rate up to then had been excellent.

MVP almost levelled when Elmes had a far post header that from my angle seemed to go inches wide his reaction though suggested is wasn’t as close as first thought.

We continued to work hard but it was one of them nights where the ball just wouldn’t run for you. Bearsted were also holding firm at the back. Galvanised by Flishers superb strike. Bearsted almost doubled their lead when Andrews found himself unmarked 6 yards out but put his header wide. However, shortly afterwards their second goal came. Dean on as a second half sub was on hand to turn home a rebound of a Kidman save. 2-0. Some alterations to the MVP line up did put some spark into our offensive play. Leggatt catching the eye with his effort and one decent shot that had the keeper troubled.

Bearsted ran out winners in the end but this was a vastly improved performance from the team. Particular mentions go to Shelton in midfield for an all action display, and Atkins who turned in another good display at the back.

FT MVP 0 Bearsted 2

We now move on to another home game this Saturday 12th March against Orpington with a 3pm kick off.
