Hunger, Attitude, Focus, Concentration & Teamwork Was Infectious Today !!

Meridian today travelled to Rusthall FC with several key personnel absent due to commitments. This allowed the management to bring in players from the clubs reserve team section to which actually was a fantastic learning curve and good experience for the players involved.

It must be stated the pitch at Jockey Farm was not of the grade required as it was severely waterlogged but knowing the fixture pile up both teams had to deal with the terrible surface equally.

Meridian started the game with a clear focus and to correct the decision making and mistakes that were in evident in last week’s performance.

It was clear that the Meridian team kicking up the slog of a pitch started with a zest and within the first 2 minutes the ball broke with neat interchanges to Dorian Smith who unleashed a sublime 30 yards missile to plant his shot into the top left corner, goalkeeper no chance 0-1.

Instructions firmly given to the players by the management were further enhanced as Meridian took the game to the home side who failed to impose their stance on the game and with good passages of play the ball broke down Meridian’s left with Duwayne Morris neatly putting through Devere Stewart who then rounded the defender with the on rushing goalkeeper trying his best to thwart Meridian only for a very sensible ball for the deep midfield run of Sam Adebanjo on the 23rd minute to slot home with composure Meridian’s second of the match, 0-2.

It was only a matter of time the pitch would take its toll on the players and it was Meridian’s players that felt the effects of the slope and extremely heavy pitch now resembling a farmers field after the home side started to push and hurry at every moment.

It was only when poor possession of the ball was cheaply given away by Meridian did the home side break down their left side and with an instant switch to the right side a well taken goal on the 38th minute was richly deserved purely for a great move and good finish, 1-2.

Meridian weathered the storm till the interval where they had time to regroup and deal with the certain issues leading to the home side making a come back in the game.

Knowing the home side would come out of the blocks Meridian stayed focused and concentration was key. The onslaught started as expected with Meridian conceding one of the few corners in the game, as expected Meridian’s defence was resolute with a towering headed clearance from Fraser Deighton which must be said had a very solid nonsense game cemented the sublime counter attack which was collected by Duwayne Morris who then out classed the home defence with an exquisite run down the left wing and finished with a superb delivery into the 18 yard box with Dorian Smith having plenty to do coolly finished a perfect move for his second of the game, 1-3.

This was no more than Meridian deserved as the players searched deep with the attitude and hunger shown was infectious and again simply started to control the passage of play with good and decision making, passing and attacks.

It was not long when Meridian virtually sealed the result on the 75th minute with another great move through the midfield as Dorian Smith slotted in the oncoming Michael Kyere to slot in Meridian’s fourth, 1-4.

The positives from this game were the attitude, focus, concentration and TEAMWORK applied by the whole squad today. Praise is not often applied in the game when you are up against it but without doubt this result is no more than Meridian deserved as the performances have been improving and been there for a while.

As stated in the last week’s match report “Meridian were very generous to the opposition which they duly accepted, the management clearly not satisfied with the inconsistency or the level of performance today which will be corrected in next week’s six pointer against Rusthall FC at Jockey Farm” the players and management clearly rectified the mishap of last week and will continue with good hard honest work into next week’s home game where Meridian FC welcome Woodstock Park FC, 2pm Kick off.
