Gavin Hoare, the chairman of the Kent County League, has issued the following statement, warning that amateur football here in Kent faces an impossible scenario of completing the 2019-20 football season amidst the continued spread of COVID-19.

“I thought I would pass on a few words to keep you informed as to where we are at this time.

To be honest, we find ourselves in areas none of us ever dreamed we would be in but the committee is not sitting on its hands.

We have been firing off questions to the governing bodies to try and get some clarification on several key issues we require advice on.

Whilst we have received some updates on the current issue, we have yet to receive answers on other key issues raised.

It’s been said that we are an autonomous body, the committee can decide how we conclude the remainder of the season.

Every week that goes by without any football being played, makes any chance of completing the season a near-impossible scenario.

We are looking at all possibilities including any effects it would have on future seasons and members are considering how we future proof those.

As a Step Seven League, we are in some respects at the mercy of the National League System, (for the remainder of this season).

Events above may have a serious knock-on effect on anything we may do. We are not sitting idle (waiting) for our leaders to guide us.

We have spoken with fellow Leagues and it’s clear they would like a uniformed approach and propose to work with them on these matters.

We are now in uncharted territory and know we may well have to make some very difficult decisions in the coming weeks but I am confident we will do the right thing at the right time.

I will keep you all updated as and when we have some positive things to share.”

All the best
Stay Safe
