Read what Blues boss Gavin Macpherson had to say as his spirited young Blues side, were edged out on penalties...

I’d like to say congratulations to AFC Wimbledon and wish them all the very best in the competition.

To say I’m extremely pleased with what I saw is an understatement. That is the youngest team ever to play for this club in a 1st team fixture and it was a pleasure to manage. Credit must go to my wider Management Team, the boys were a credit to the club. The London Senior Cup is one of this season’s pathway competitions. We map out certain games to give experience to our youth and U23 players regardless of who we play.
In the game itself, we set up in a certain way to play against a very strong AFC Wimbledon team, you’re never totally sure how some will react to their first taste at this level but they all responded magnificently.

It understandably took time for the boys to adjust and we did a lot of work out of possession particularly in the 1st half. For me half time gave us a chance to talk over a few things and as a consequence the 2nd half was really good. We asked the boys to be braver, they passed the ball much better and displayed a calmness under pressure. We didn’t quite have a cutting edge but Hani and Nick were playing against a very experienced back four with good league 1 experience.

We kept a clean sheet against a very good team that had a goal threat. You hope for penalty success, to be honest I was already proud of the attitude and application so a win really would have made it a fantastic night. Yes myself Jon, Scott and Paul I’ve overseen the game but the performance comes very much from the players.
The support for the boys was great, we can now leave the London Senior behind.
I was delighted with the players.
