We caught up with Blue boss, as he reflected on a big win last weekend, one of the toughest away days of the season and Ben Shrolls brilliant debut.

Read what Blues boss Gavin Macpherson had to say to us after a big win on Saturday.

Firstly looking back to Saturday, how do you reflect on a fantastic win against Gosport?

It’s a really good win when you take everything into consideration. Many people have highlighted the strength in depth and experience Gosport possess. They have an experienced management team and we were struggling with injuries and suspensions so all in all it was an excellent afternoons work. The energy levels particularly in the first half was exactly what we requested and in the end I thought we could have been more comfortable. We’ve asked questions of teams in every single fixture so far and as long as we keep doing that I’m happy.

How happy were with Ben Shroll with his brilliant debut performance?

I was delighted with Ben, he came into what was a strange dressing room and looked as if he’d been here all season. Obviously he is familiar with the club but not necessarily the set of players so I thought it was a fantastic debut. I must acknowledge Zack Chislett can count himself unlucky not to have played. Gosport are a big side and I felt that we needed a bit more height especially as we were missing our captain Ollie Robinson.

Looking ahead to Saturday, where we visit Taunton, just how tough are you expecting it to be?

I actually have a feeling that Taunton will do very well this season. I don’t necessarily base that on their really solid start to the season but looking at some of the comings and going in the summer I felt Rob Dray was building a really good dynamic side which will cause problems at this level. They are firm favourites to win, we understand that and our players understand the task ahead of them can’t really be understated. But no one really gave us I hope against Gosport and Weston super-mare so we’ll travel looking for a result but we all understand how difficult this one is.

Are there any fresh injury concerns for Saturday?

I’m afraid we have plenty of issues. Our treatment table is full and when you couple this with suspensions it makes a small squad look very thin on the ground. Jack Mazzone, George Frith, Alex Fisher and Simba Kudwiya are all a doubt. Ollie Robinson did not play last week and may be out for some time, Louis Birch is suspended so it’s probably as grim as I’ve seen it. But we were short on Saturday against Gosport and came through so as ever I put my trust in the players and we’ll look forward to the game.
