Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League Premier Division South

Met Police FC are back on the road on Tuesday night, making the trip across Surrey to face Chipstead at High Road in our latest Premier Division South fixture.

Getting to know Chipstead

Founded in 1906 by workers building the nearby Netherne Hospital, Chipstead — known as The Chips — are a club with real history at this level. They've won the Combined Counties League title twice, in 1989/90 and 2006/07, with the second of those earning promotion to Step 4 for the first time in the club's history. They went on to spend seventeen seasons at that level, with tenth place their best-ever finish, achieved in both 2010/11 and 2011/12.

Chipstead's long run at Step 4 came to an end with relegation back to the Combined Counties League in 2024, and last season proved a tough return, with the club finishing 17th of 20 in Premier Division South.

A first meeting since relegation

Tuesday's game is the first time the two clubs have met since Chipstead dropped back down to Step 5 — and the first time we've ever faced them in the Combined Counties League. The history between the sides is a good one for us: Met Police are unbeaten in our last eight meetings with Chipstead (6 wins, 2 draws), with the two most recent results both coming in the 2023/24 Isthmian League South Central season — a 4-0 win at Imber Court and a 2-0 win at High Road.

Chipstead's start to 2026/27

Chipstead head into Tuesday night on the back of a really difficult opening to the season. After a solid pre-season in which they lost just once in seven friendlies, they've lost all three competitive matches since a ball kicked in anger:

- Chipstead 1-2 Abbey Rangers (H) — led before a late red card and a stoppage-time free-kick turned the game

- Knaphill 2-1 Chipstead (A) — led 1-0 into the second half before conceding twice in the closing minutes, including a stoppage-time winner

- Epsom & Ewell 1-0 Chipstead (A) — exit at the first hurdle in this season's Emirates FA Cup

That's zero points from their opening two league games and a three-match losing run heading into Tuesday's trip from Imber Court — but a Chipstead side that, by the manner of those defeats, look capable of turning results around at any moment. We'll be looking to make sure that moment doesn't come against us.

Get behind the boys as we head to High Road looking to continue our strong recent record against The Chips.
