Gavin Macpherson on the final pre season preparation and the visit of Truro.

“Truro will be very difficult opponents. A team that will be one of the league favourites and favourites for the game tomorrow. It’s a great opportunity to test ourselves against a team that had until recently established itself at the level above. They’ve got an experienced Manager with players boasting football league connections so we quite simply will have to be very good.

We all have fantastic memories from last season but they are now part of this fantastic clubs history. This team has a different feel to it, we have lost 6 players, some have moved into full time football and that’s great for the club. The players and in particular the new players now have the chance to write their own stories. We can help them all work and improve, whether that’s technical, tactical, psychological, we have been busy identifying those areas and will keep working on them.

I’ve told the players, there will be questions asked of their character as there were numerous times last season. They’re a young group and that comes with the territory but I’ve seen signs that we demonstrate an ability to deal with events that go against us and that will certainly be key as we move forward.

We need to be tactically flexible. I employed our usual system for most of pre season but moved to another system for the final couple of games. I want us to be able to adapt when required so it’s important to have a plan B.

We’ll carefully look at the opposition and decide what tactics to employ. It was no different against Grays last week hence the change.

There is always an intensity on the 1st game. Players, supporters and Management have been waiting for it for weeks, it won’t define a teams season but it’s good to win at any stage. For now let’s see what we can do against a very good Truro side”
