The Met halted by Corinthian in the FA Cup

A late Corinthian goal ensured a replay on Tuesday night will determine who goes through to the next round of the FA Cup. Under the backdrop of a warm summer’s afternoon at Imber Court, it was the Met who were able to gain an early lead, with forward Soul Kader having been tripped inside the penalty area, and then able to convert the subsequent penalty to give the Blues an early lead. Gavin Macpherson’s side were then unable to replicate this early momentum for the remainder of the half, as although they possessed much of the ball, it was Corinthian who created the majority of goal-scoring opportunities. Just seconds before the half-time whistle, the visitors were able to equalise through Oscar Housego, who converted the game’s second spot-kick to equalise.

There was little to split the two sides as the tie got back underway for the second half, though in the 57th minute, Blues winger Ollie Knight guided a fierce shot into the bottom corner to regain the lead for his side. Corinthian then ramped up the pressure on the Blues goal in search of an equaliser, with Callum Coulter having to pull off a sublime stop to deny the visitors in the 70th minute. This pressure paid off in the 85th minute however, as a mistake from Coulter was then capitalised upon by James Allen, who finished into the back of the net to give his side a late equaliser.
