Ollie Knight returned as the Blues fall just short at home

Truro City extended their unbeaten start to the league season with a narrow 2-1 win at Imber Court. Both sides were well-matched in the early stages, with Tyler Harvey and Josh Keeya coming closest to an opener: the former saw an effort from close range whistle narrowly wide of the post for the visitors, and the latter fired over the bar for the hosts following some intricate football down the left hand side. It was the 38th minute that proved decisive for Truro City, as they were able to take full advantage of a corner from the left hand side with Shane White heading into the back of the net, via a deflection off Met shot-stopper Liam Beach, to pull his side in front. Striker Andrew Neal was subsequently able to double his side’s lead minutes later in the 44th minute, as he fired beyond Beach from very close range after an inviting ball into his path from the left hand side.

The Met came out roaring in the second half, piling on the pressure on the Truro City defence in search of a route back in the game, with manager Gavin Macpherson stating his side “played them [Truro] out the park” in the second period. This pressure paid off in the 75th minute, as substitute Ollie Knight flashed the ball across the box for striker Tom Read to poke home from point-blank range and halve the deficit for his side. Macpherson’s side proceeded to dominate the game from then on, with the Truro backline pushed right back, attempting to halt the home side from an equaliser. It was Matt Hall who looked destined to level the score line in the 90th minute with a powerful header from a corner, though a sublime save by James Hamon denied the Blues defender and ensured the visitors ran away from Surrey with a “fantastic three points” as quoted by manager Paul Wotton.
