2013/14 Season - 'A season to Forget!'

We knew it was going to be a transitional season for the club. After a fairly successful season in 2012/13, Lee Davis stepped down as manager with Alister 'Spanish coaching manual' Johnson taking over (In the absence of any volunteers !). Unfortunately a lot of the squad from the previous season also left the club and even though 17 Year olds Adam, Josh, Mike and Sam joined from Milford Pumas Youth. FC, there was a lack of players and team mentality as the the season started ! The season started ok against Guildford Albion, with 7 new players, one of which, Paddy scoring two first half goals (of his top goal scoring 4 !), 2-0 up at the break......if only the season has finished then ! The match ended 3-3 and it was downhill after that!We never managed to get a consistent team out up to Christmas with new faces coming and going. 44 players were signed on for us and in the end 32 players wore the famous green and black stripes this season. Our worst performance being the embarrassing defeat at Wisley!In between league defeats we did win 2 County Cup games against Div 1 opposition and a team from Wimbledon.After Christmas, we started to see a more settled squad, and as a result we were much more competitive. The draw with league winners Witley Club was probably our best result of the season and as the season ended we looked a totally different team than from the beginning of the season. With the season we have had, a lot of teams would have folded, but we have stuck at it and a great deal of credit goes to all of the players that have stayed loyal to the club. Special mention to Tony who played in all 24 matches this season and captained in most, and also to Darren, Waz, Paddy, Adam and Sam who played in 20 or more matches. Hopefully, we can build on the team spirit we have shown of late and make sure that we have a good pre-season and start next season all guns blazing !
