Milford & Witley Vets travelled to Farnborough on Sunday, making their way through the rather long diversion which eventually took them to the ground.
The Gaffer made one change from the week previous, Dave Evans was unavailable with Pearcy stepping in to take his place. We also welcomed back the new slim line Sheena Easton into the squad, along with Graham Harrowing.
M & W nearly opened the scoring inside the first minute, Putz was unable to convert Costa’s cross after some good build up play from Pearcy. Chances were being created with the home keeper saving well from Pearcy & Putz. Sam then blazed over before he opened the scoring by placing his effort inside the far post.
The hosts didn’t look like they had much to offer until a moment of madness from Nashy & Bessey gifted them a chance which they took to level the scores. This gave Folly Hill a lift & soon they were putting the M&W defence under pressure.
Half time came with the Gaffer & his Assistant Bessey dishing out a fine selection of orange segments, a first for the season. We also saw Maz come on for the Gaffer.
Costa had a great chance to take the lead but put wide his effort, Rob was then put through by Pearcy, but his chip over the advancing keeper hit the post & bounced to safety. The second goal did come through Pearcy, sweeping home Costa’s cross after he was found from a delightful cross field pass from Nashy. It certainly made up for his earlier mistake.
Rusty then came on for Sam, looking very fetching in his own blue socks, Sheena for Pearcy, the Gaffer looking to freshen things up & to get the goal that would kill the game off.
But the home side wouldn’t lay down & kept on coming at the Vets defence. Bessey gave Buddha a scare when he fired in a back pass at him which thankfully didn’t result in a goal. Stevie picked up his first yellow card of the season for a late tackle (doubt if it will be his last)!
Graham then stepped in for Nashy as the home time took to going route one in order to try & find the equalizing goal.
The energetic Putz was still full of running, despite Folly Hill trying to knee him up the bum. Costa then unleased a 30 yard screamer which the home keeper did well to save.
M & W defended well up until the full time whistle & came away with all 3 points, something we had to update Maz on as he thought the score was 1-1.
There was a scare after the game as the changing rooms started to flood, thankfully we saved both Nashy & Maz from disappearing down the plug hole as the tidal wave came out from the showers.
