Training match to test try out new players with some positive elements.

Well here we are again, back for the 2013 / 14 season and a first home match (training match). Wonder full sunny morning and good turnout of for players and parents / supporters. We all know this was going to be a tough training session with the match split in to x4 15 minute games. This would allow us to move players in to different positions and try some different lads out. Ampthill were keen and arrived well before the 11am KO. The 1st quarter was very much 50/50 with Ampthill getting in 2 tries from missed tackles. Quick chat at the break and suggested they keep at it and try to get the ball to the backs from the amounting penalties Ampthill were giving MK. The forwards were taking it in to the contact area but not as successful at recycling it back out. MK were just missing the tackles that allowed Ampthill to score several tries. Another break and a chat. It was clear that a couple of the new boys (first time to see them in MK shirt) didn’t disappoint, with Jordan-Lee making some of is now familiar (low running positions) runs and was not frightened to take the contact. Unfortunately Jordan-Lee got injured in a cracking tackle and had to go and see the NHS re a damaged finger. OK so we completed another 15 minute session and didn’t look like we were going to score but the backs were now getting the ball and Jake make some of his usual runs but was stopped by the last man. As quick as a flash and we were in the last quarter. MK started as they did in the 1st quarter and looked like scoring a few times and progressed much better up the field and to add to that, Alex’s fly hack through several times saw us all think here we go… unfortunately the final bounce went in Ampthill’s favour and we then had to fight for the ball.

Commemnts from the Ampthill coaching team complemented MK on several occasions and they enjoyed a good game, with the overriding comment from them saying “your boys were very well disciplined, well done and wish you all the best for the season”. Thanks for all our boys who tried out new responsibilities in the pack and in the back line. See you all Wednesday @ 6pm for training!!!
