A much improved performance.....

Mold knew they would need to improve on their second half performance against Porthmadog if they were to secure any points from the visit of Caresws. The home side started well enough and looked confident and composed throughout the first half. With Sean Calvery and Kurtis Prydderch making the first team squad for the first time, it was a confident start. Although Mold looked a more settled side than a fortnight ago, Caersws started the game well and prodded the Mold defence trying to find a way through. On 6 minutes the Mold defence allowed the ball to bounce in their own box from a Caress throw in but they managed to clear the danger. Caersws were at it again on 11 minutes but Mold dealt with the danger from a Sws corner. On the quarter hour Danny Hennigan delivered a great corner into the box but Sws cleared easily enough. On 19 minutes Mold’s Kieran Hamm and Sws’s Tom Richards went to ground after a clash of heads but both resumed the game after treatment.

Caersws should have been ahead on 26 minutes after Mold’s Prydderch passed the ball straight to a Caersws player who crossed for Lance Jones to open their account but he was flagged offside. As the game drifted towards the break it looked as though Mold would go in for half time refreshments with a clean sheet. Disaster struck however on 45 minutes when Caersws had a player brought down in the area even though he presented no danger and was moving away from goal at the time. Sean Evans duly converted the penalty.

Kenny Irons changed things slightly in the second half bringing on Nathan Munro for Danny Hennigan and Munro was straight into the thick of it. It was Caersws who netted next however as Lance Jones found himself unmarked in the box and headed easily into the net from a corner. On 57 minutes Mold pulled one back after Munro’s header looked goal bound only for Sws keeper Luke Evans to pull off a fantastic save to push the ball round the post for a corner. It was Joe Davies who reacted quickest to that corner after Sws failed to clear the danger and he poked the ball home to get Mold back in the game. Mold were unable to compose themselves however and two minutes later Sws scored again when Mold keeper Nixon failed to clear a long ball and Elliot Jones poked the ball into the empty net. Danny Brookes replaced Reece Riley on 63 minutes and Josh Williams replaced Kieran Hamm on 74 minutes but Mold had left themselves with too much to do. Sws should have extended their lead further on 85 minutes but Mark Griffiths saw his sharp strike come back off the foot of the post. Mold had one last attempt on goal three minutes from time but Rhys Nash’s overhead kick was easily gathered by the keeper.
