Steady Performance Earns New Managers Their First Point

It's probably safe to say that before the game, Neil, Mike, the players, supporters and the club would have been happy to settle for a point from this game. By the end of the 90 minutes, the team had proved that they were well worth their hard earned point.

Prior to the kick off, both sides gathered in the centre circle to support the FAW Fair Play day and the resulting game was played in the spirit of the initiative.

Guilsfield were quickly out of the traps, pushing forward and earned themselves a free kick within the first minute but it came to nothing. A minute later Mold's Leigh Williams was forced to block a close range shot from Adam Jenkins to prevent the Guils taking the lead. Mold then settled into the game and started pushing forward. Guilsfield upped the pace again and on 12 minutes Leigh Williams found himself having to block another Guils shot before the visitors were awarded a corner which was headed onto the cross bar and cleared. On the quarter hour it was Mold who were awarded a corner kick and David Littleford came to punch the ball clear. On 17 minutes Guilsfield were awarded a free kick and Mold's Abe Dobson cleared the danger conceding a corner in the process. The resultant corner kick was punched clear by Williams. On 21 minutes Guilsfield were awarded another corner and this time the kick almost put them ahead but the cross bar denied them. Mold went straight down the other end of the pitch following a great move after Gary McConnell put Lee Jones through but he was forced wide. Jones checked at the bye line and laid the ball back for Rhys Nash who was quickly closed down so he set up Dobson but his shot went skyward. It was now Mold's turn to apply the pressure and on 27 minutes Lee Jones made a great run to set up Nash but both he and Andreas Economedies got in each others way. The visitors really should have gone ahead on 28 minutes but Mathew Leonard could only side foot his shot over the cross bar. They didn't have long to wait however as Rhys Nash was penalised on the half hour and the resultant free kick was headed clear by Sean Calvery for a corner. The corner came in and no one in the box seemed to be able to deal with it, the ball landing at the feet of James Henderson who somehow seemed to direct the ball past the stranded Mold keeper. Mold were still somewhat shell shocked as Guils struck again on 33 minutes after good work down the right and a cross found Andrew Ford in the box, totally unmarked and he stroked the ball past the keeper. Mold picked themselves up and went on the attack through Cal Lavelle who pushed down the right wing and crossed but there was no one to meet the ball. Alex Weatherby nearly pulled one back for Mold just before the break but he was forced to head wide by a strong Guilsfield challenge.

Straight from the restart, Andreas found Dobson but his shot went just wide. Guils should have gone 3 up on 56 minutes following a long throw but Danny Barton headed wide from close range. The Mold team talk seemed to be paying dividends in the second half as the side looked better organised and a real battle ensued in the midfield area keeping opportunities for both sides to a minimum. On 60 minutes Lee Jones broke for Mold down the right hand side and should really have crossed for Economedies who had made a great run in from the left but Jones went for goal and skied his shot. A minute later Mold were awarded a free kick after Sam Litchfield followed through on Gary McConnell but Dobson's free kick went just wide. Mold made their first change on 66 minutes with Matty Lewis coming on to replace Lee Jones. Leigh Williams got down well on 67 minutes to parry a shot wide for a corner and clear the danger. A minute later Guildfield made their first change as Arron Edwards entered the fray. Mold were growing in confidence and pulled themselves back into the game on 69 minutes when a mix up between David Littleford and Andrew Ford allowed Andreas Economedies to lob the stranded keeper. Rhys Nash for Mold and Andrew Ford for Guils then received the only cautions of the game before John Davies left the field for Mold to be replaced by Danny Brookes. Adam Jenkins delivered a great cross for Guildfield on 74 minutes but Arron Edwards headed wide at the back post. The game should have been put out of Mold's reach on 76 minutes when Cal Lavelle slipped and allowed Barton to run through on the keeper but Leigh saved with his legs. It proved to be a valuable save from Leigh as a minute later Rhys Nash sent a long ball over the top for Matty Lewis to chase and he lobbed the advancing keeper to bring Mold right back in the game. Mold then made their last change of the game when Joe Jones replaced Gary McConnell on 77 minutes. Two minutes later Alex Weatherby got an important toe to the ball as Guilsfield's Jake Cook was teeing up his shot. The game was then held up for twenty minutes following a serious injury to a Arron Edwards and although an ambulance was called, it proved not to be the break everyone had feared and he was eventually carried from the pitch to the comfort of the Venue Alexandra Club House and the ambulance was cancelled. Arron still suffered a nasty injury and is likely to be sidelined for 3-4 weeks. Best wishes to him from Mold Alex. After the game restarted, the last 10 minutes proved to be an exciting finale, with both teams probing for the winner. Neither team could really deliver the killer blow but the Mold supporters were left biting their nails as 90 minutes appeared on the clock when Guilsfield were awarded four corners in a row. Two minutes into injury time a Guils long throw was headed goalward by Jamie Henderson but Williams tipped the ball over the cross bar. One minute later Mold had what looked from the stand, like a stone wall hand ball appeal turned down and the penalty kick denied. It was Mold who had the last chance of the game however when Nash found himself free to head for goal but he could only direct the ball the wrong side of the post.

All in all it was a great result for the team and the new management team and gave the Mold supporters something to cheer about. We now look forward to next week's Welsh Cup game home to Llanberis FC. Kick off will be 2:00pm.
