Molesey stayed on the road to Wembley after this hard fought draw against our visitors from the Division above.

The Lads earned a replay down at the Dripping Pan, Lewes and could have gone through on the day but for better finishing.

In the opening twenty minutes Lewes dominated possession, prompting and probing, trying to find a way through a well drilled Molesey back line who were marshalled well by new Club Captain Chris Wales. He was partnered by Matt David who recently returned from a short spell with Cobham.

After these initial exchanges and one scary moment where Matt David had to clear his lines, The home side were relatively comfortable and started creeping into the game with a long range effort from Joshua Adusei. Tayo Oyebola and Ezra Nelson were working hard defending from the front with Manny Quarshie battling upfront preventing the centre halves having it all their own way.

The experienced Billy Medlock put in a series of dangerous challenges that were let go by the ref and Joshua Adusei found himself in the book off his first wayward tackle.

HT: 0-0

The second half started much like the first with Lewes trying to seize control of the game, but Molesey refused to allow this as they grew into the game. The outstanding Tayo Oyebola was cynically fouled on a couple of occasions as he continually threatened the visitors back four.

After an exhilarating run by Tayo shaking off two Lewes defenders, Tayo Oyebola seemed to wait an age for support in the box and when it didn’t come he was thwarted by the recovering left back. But the moment of the game for the home side was a great run by Ashby Charles who beat his man, got into the box to square for the arriving Manny Quarshie who saw his shot go narrowly wide.

At the death, Lewes thought they had won a penalty when Billy Medlock was sent scampering through and as he went to cut inside Chris Wales’ slide tackle, dived exaggeratedly into the box. The referee waved the appeals away, then gave Medlock his second yellow for the simulation.

On a whole Molesey thoroughly deserved their second chance to progress into the next round to face Farnborough away.
