A disciplined display saw Molesey take a tiny step towards Wembley against a dogged Three Bridges side in an evenly contested Cup tie at Jubilee Walk.

Molesey were missing two through suspension in Ashby Charles and Joshua Adusei, which saw Ezra Nelson switch to right back and Alex Filipe in and left back. Sacha M’Baye returned to partner Captain Chris Wales at Centre half with Dre Grobler playing in an advanced midfield role. Francis Quarm returned to the midfield after missing the Cheshunt game through injury.

The first half was a very even affair with both sides creating opportunities. Tayo Oyebola went close to connecting to a Dylan Cascoe through ball and Athan Smith-Joseph had two shots, one on target which was comfortable for the home keeper. Three Bridges forward Omar Folkes had a rasping drive well parried away by the solid Sam Johnson-Freeman in goal.

Defensively, The back four were immense as well as Quarm, Marklew and Cascoe in the midfield biting and snapping in each and everyone of their challenges.

HT: 0-0

The game really came alive in the 51st minute when a strong run from Three Bridges’ Olumide Oluwatimilehin was brought to an abrupt end by a great tackle from Dylan Cascoe, which set Chris Wales to move forward and send a glorious ball into the path of Athan Smith-Joseph. Smith-Joseph in turn cut inside his defender to curl a wonderful shot into the bottom far corner.

This ignited Three Bridges but Molesey stood firm to the onslaught. In the 68th minute Ayo Majekodunmi replaced Dre Grobler in the midfield to keep the pressure on the home side, who were becoming frustrated. This caused a number of fouls resulting in yellow cards for those Three Bridges players.

The last ten minutes was a frantic affair where Molesey needed to dig deep and defend resolutely. Three Bridges headed over in the last 5 minutes and a last gasp shot was brilliantly blocked by the outstanding Sacha M’Baye.

Next week we have an important away league fixture against Bedfont Sport.
