Molesey lost consecutive games for the first time this season as Faversham ran out convincing 5-1 winners at Walton Road.

It was only the second time all season that the Moles had dropped points at home, and the defeat was in contrast to Saturday’s unlucky loss at Ramsgate, as the visitors ruthlessly punished the Moles’ mistakes and ended up deserved winners.

The guile and creativity of the suspended James McShane was badly missed for the home side, who suffered their heaviest league defeat since a 7-1 thrashing at Egham nearly three years ago.

Although they can have no complaints about the defeat, the visitors’ two early goals came about moments after the Moles had missed half chances at the other end.

In the opening five minutes Reis Stanislaus was in on goal but opted to try and find strike partner Stafforde Palmer before eventually being crowded out. Faverham broke and Liam King cut inside from the left and fired into the bottom corner.

Twenty minutes were not quite on the clock when Joe Pratley-Jones put a dangerous low cross along the six yard box which just evaded Palmer. Faversham keeper William Godmon retrieved the ball from close to the corner flag, launched it upfield, King flicked on and Josh Stanford finished neatly beyond Liam Allen to double the lead.

Godmon made good saves from Tom Windsor and Ollie Robinson, whilst Ross Chalke volleyed over the bar as the Moles fought hard to get back into the game, but the killer third goal arrived early in the second half.

And what a goal it was. The ref made a howler by prematurely blowing for a free-kick after Pratley-Jones brought down Liam King on the edge of the box, with Stuart King going on to slot home the loose ball.

However, Stuart King got him out of jail by firing the resulting free kick into the top corner to make it three.

The Moles rallied, and Chalke’s fine volley opened the door to the possibility of a comeback that would have even surpassed the amazing 4-3 victory of Harlow ten days previously.

However, that door was slammed shut when Allen’s poor clearance fell to Charlie Robertson, who sent Liam King clear to slot home the fourth.

Substitute Dean Grant finished smartly for number five in stoppage time after Allen had again given the ball away to round off the scoring.

The Moles have punched above their weight so far this season and were due a below par performance. They’ll dust themselves down and go again for Saturday’s game at Ebbsfleet in the FA Trophy.
