Molesey entertained one of the promotion favourites in our first game of the season at Walton Road in Bracknell Town. The visitors were League Champions last season and started their campaign with a win last week.

The pitch was in excellent condition so the scene was set for a good game. Molesey started brightly and had early opportunities to take the lead through Ayo Majekodunmi who narrowly struck his shot wide, Athan Smith-Joseph who hit the bar and was put through but didn't pull the trigger when in the area.

The visitors then took the lead when a looping cross from Liam Ferdinand went straight into the net at the far post in the 24th minute. Even after this goal and a couple of smart saves from Sam Johnson-Freeman, Molesey had a chance from a Craig Lewington corner that was glanced just wide by the impressive Ryan Marklew.

Ryan David, who has been outstanding already this season slid in then cleared a certain goal off the line from the dangerous Liam Ferdinand.

HT 0-1

Bracknell Town extended their lead within five minutes of the second half. A long ball forward was not dealt with by Sacha M'Baye and when the ball broke to Liam Ferdinand who despatched the ball in the corner of the net. Ashby Charles replaced the injured Jason Frimpong in the 50th minute.

Molesey showed great spirit, not allowing their heads to go down and continuing to take the game to the visitors. Molesey got back into the game when an over hit cross from the right from Athan Smith-Joseph was gathered by Ryan Marklew and swung back into the box where Tayo Oyebola volleyed into the net for his first of the season in the 58th minute.

The next two chances fell to the visitors when Bowerman hit the post and the excellent Sam Freeman-Johnson tipped the same players next effort onto the bar.

In the 71st minute Molesey thought they had equalised after a determined run from the outstanding Tayo Oyebola saw his stabbed shot squirmed beyond the keeper, where Athan Smith-Joseph then slammed his shot beyond a defender on the line but which was rightfully ruled offside. Joshua Adusei then had a shot from distance palmed away by the keeper.

Manny Quarshie then entered the fray in the 75th minute replacing Athan Smith-Joseph and nearly equalised 4 minutes later when another exhilarating run from Tayo Oyebola getting onto an Ashby Charles pass saw the striker get round the full back and cross for the incoming Quarshie who's first time finish was miraculously saved by the Bracknell Town Keeper. Sacha M'Baye also cleared one off of the line after a swift counter attack from the visitors.

The last substitution was the former Harrow Borough and Chipstead midfielder Dylan Cascoe, on for the injured Sam Labinjo, to make his debut for the club in the 84th minute. Molesey stayed on the front foot to the end but Bracknell Town held on to secure the win.

Next up at Walton Road is our FA Cup tie against Lewes next Saturday 25th August, then South Park here on Monday 27th August.
