AFC Monton travelled to the Vestacre Stadium to face second placed AVRO reserves for this Manchester League second division fixture and returned home with three very important and valuable points following a totally committed squad performance.
Despite being without several regular choice players the Ammies performed as a tight, organised side against an experienced AVRO outfit and right from the start this was going to be a stern test for Monton as they looked to bounce back to winning ways following a recent dip in results over their previous two games.
Monton manager Chris Baguley opened the scoring for the Ammies and Rob Cooke added a second midway through the half but the home side managed to reduce the arrears just before half time to provide an interesting second half.
So it proved to be as AVRO found an equaliser and then had a penalty saved only for Monton to find the winning goal through Josh Wilson to send the travelling Ammies and their fans back to New Alder Park with a deserved victory and close the gap at the top of the table on their rivals.
