MONTROSE ROSELEA 5 MAUD 0
MCBOOKIE.COM NORTH SUPERLEAGUE
SAT NOV 13TH 2021

Roselea welcomed Maud to Links Park having just played them two weeks ago in the reverse fixture and were in fact the last team they played due to the cancellation at Ellon last week. The reverse fixture finished in a 3-2 away win for Roselea and should have been more convincing on chances served up and the late unnecessary penalty that gave the home side a lifeline.

Roselea were on a great run of form having won their last five fixtures and were looking to make it six. Roselea were sitting in 8th place on 17 points and they knew that a win could propel them into 6th place depending on results elsewhere. There were some absences for Roselea but they still fielded a strong team for the match

A minutes silence was held in memory of the War Heros of Armistice Day on 11th Nov

Roselea: Tweed, Stephen, Soutar, Reoch, E Watson, Davidson, Beedie, Thomson, Greig, C Watson & Garnham. Subs: Jamieson, McDonald, Robertson & Ferguson (T)

Roselea had the first chance in 3 minutes when Thomson had a shot blocked and ran through for keeper Mowatt to gather easily.
Roselea didn’t hang around and opened the scoring in 7 minutes when Calum WATSON pounced on a lose ball inside the box and fired home.
Roselea were on top and a couple of great moves saw them nearly increase their lead. Soutar and Garnham combined down the left and Davidson had his shot turned behind for a corner then Garham held the ball up well before laying back to Davidson who brought out a great save from Mowatt in 14 mins
Maud had their first chance in 21 minutes when Walker sent a free kick well wide of the target from 30 yards.
In 24 minutes Garnham and Greig combined again with Mowatt tipping over the bar. From Beedies corner GARNHAM pounced at the back post to make it 2-0.
There were a couple of debatable offside decisions when Thomson broke through for Roselea looking well offside but his poor touch rescued the referee then Garnham was given offside when he was clearly on.
Roselea stretched their lead to a comfortable three goals in the 39th minute. Thomson flicked on sending GARNHAM away and after twisting and turning his opponent three times he slid on to stab home from 8 yards
Roselea had a final chance of the half when Reoch put C Watson in but he dragged his shot wide from the angle.

Half Time Montrose Roselea 3 Maud 0

The first action of the second half was a free header from a Maud corner in 48 mins and luckily for Roselea the ball bounced perfectly for Tweed to smother.
Calum Watson had a shot well saved by Mowatt in 55 mins as Roselea looked to get back amongst the goals
Roselea made a change with Robertson on for Greig in 56 minutes
Garnham was being a thorn in Mauds side and again did well to hold the ball in the box then his lay off to Davidson was intercepted by a great Maud tackle. From Beedies corner E Watsons header was again well saved by Mowatt
The Roselea pressure was racking up and it was no surprise when they increased the lead in 61 minutes. Thomson flicked on for GARNHAM to advance and complete his hattrick with a nice finish.
Jamieson replaced the hattrick man in 64 minutes
Roselea had a penalty claim when Jamieson tangled with Maud keeper Mowatt in 66 minutes but was not given
Jamieson played a big part in the 5th goal with some great hold up play before swivelling to pass on the onrusching ROBERTSON who advanced and also sent a great finish past the Maud keeper in 76 minutes
Roselea made a third change with Owen Ferguson from the U17s replacing David Beedie for some valuable experience

Full Time Montrose Roselea 5 Maud 0

This was a very professional display against a team who did seem to lose heart after the third goal went in however that takes nothing away from the Roselea performance. They were strong all over the pitch and will 3-4 players to return it makes the competition for places all the stronger in the coming weeks. Well done to star man Sam Garnham for his hattrick and the highlight of his play was his hold up with back to goal and bring other players into the game.

The win as mentioned takes Roselea into 6th place courtesy of some other results going their was and is a decent end to the first half of the season considering where they were placed at one point. They can now look to build on that and try and beat the points tally in the second half of the season.

Next week Roselea will face tougher opposition in the form of current League leaders Culter at Links Park. Roselea should hold no fears as they won the reverse fixture at Crombie Park 3-0 back in August 3rd. Kick off at Links Park is 1.30pm
