MONTROSE ROSELEA 0 BRIDGE OF DON THISTLE 8
MCBOOKIE.COM NORTH SUPERLEAGUE
SAT 4TH DEC 2021

Roselea faced a tough home league fixture following the postponement of all last weeks game when Bridge of Don Thistle were due at Broomfield Park with Links Park unavailable. Roselea were struggling with a number of players missing due to injury and Manager Eric Watson called in former team mate at Cove 38 year old Paul McManus as a trialist. The striker had also played for Brechin & Raith Rovers. Also in as trialists were 16 year olds Own Ferguson and Struan Adam from Montrose Youth who took up places on the bench.
Roselea: Tweed, Davidson, Stephen, Reoch, McDonald, Grieg, Beedie, Thomson, Garnham, Jamieson and McManus. Subs Gill, Ferguson, Bailey, C Watson, Taylor & McCormack

Despite the pitch being playable on arrival the heavy rain was causing some puddles to form however a spike and brush soon removed the water from the surface however it was clear that it was going to cut up. Roselea kicked off into a very stiff wind and the rain continued to fall heavily.
There was disaster for Roselea as they lost two goals in the first five minutes. The first one came in 3 minutes when Bridge of Don were allowed to take a short corner and when the diverted ball came in BOWDEN was allowed a free header and scored from 8 yards. Two minutes later ANGUS broke down the right hand side looking decidedly offside but cut into the box and had a great finish with the outside of his right foot.
This floored Roselea however they stuck to the task and Jamieson gave them some hope with a snap shot from 25 yards which went wide of the post.
After stablising the ship Roselea leaked another goal in 28 minutes when GORDON finished from a low cross. It was already starting to look like a damage limitation exercise for Roselea.
Things went from bad to worse when McDonald had to be replaced after he took the full force of the ball in his face and Gill took over in midfield with the formation changed to suit.
Bridge of Don Thistle added two more goals with ANGUS finishing from a cross then BOOTH was allowed too much space and cut in before striking a low shot to give the visitors a scary 5-0 half time lead.

Roselea settled in better after the break however it was ThIstle who were still looking more likely to score. In 55 minutes ANGUS had the chance to get his hattrick and did so from the penalty spot and he slammed the ball in off the underside of the bar after Greig was harshly adjudged to have handled in the area.
Davidson was the next to fall foul of the conditions when he jarred his knee in a midfield clash and was replaced by Ferguson and then Jamiseson was replaced by the other 16 year old Adam.
Garnham was put right through with Roselea looking more for a consoloation than a life line and although he forced Shearer to make a good save the shot lacked the power to beat the keeper in the conditions.
Roselea did get a break when a header came off the post but the puddle on the line stopped the ball crossing the line.
Bridge of Don added two further goals with GORDON also grabbing his hattrick with two good finishes.
Tweed had done little wrong during the game and came out to make a great block from Angus who had broke through.

Full Time: Montrose Roselea 0 Brdige of Don Thistle 8

This felt a bit like the Hermes result from earlier on in the season which seemed to be a freak result although that is taking nothing away from Thistle who looked far hungrier than Roselea and also adapted to the conditions. Although the game was a bit farcical at times the referee called it right to start the game as it was played at 1.30pm although by the end puddles were forming. It would have been very harsh on Bridge of Don Thistle to have abandoned the game with their hefty lead. There were some pluses for Roselea in that the two 16 year olds who came on will have gained some experience despite the poor conditions and Tayler Gill also did well when he came on in difficult circumstances.

Like the Hermes game Roselea will have to dust themselves down and again prove that it was a freak result. They travel to Nairn on Saturday 11th and they will also be hurting after going down 12-1 to Banks o Dee. The Roselea bus will leave Links Park at 9am for the journey North
