Becks started this year with a move up to Canberra to join the Queanbeyan Whites. His form saw him crack the 1st Grade team, but that was only the start of the ride. Early in April he received an invite from the Fijian Rugby Union to trial for the U20s squad that was being assembled for the Oceania Games. Becks’ hard work saw him make the final cut and he headed up to the Gold Coast as part of the squad. Fiji played matches against Australia, New Zealand and Japan and Becks only missed the game against NZ.
The next tournament on the horizon was the U20 World Cup and Becks was in the mix on the back of his performances at the Oceania tournament. He spent 3 weeks in Fiji with the squad before flying out to Argentina. Becks’ parents also travelled to the tournament and his father, Yabaki, had the honour of presenting Becks his Fijian jersey. A proud moment for the whole family.
Becks came off the bench in the very narrow loss to Georgia and then got to start in the match against Scotland where he played a great game. Fiji recorded a very important 59-34 win over Scotland to keep them in the World Cup comp and relegate Scotland to the World Rugby U20 Trophy.
We would like to wish Becks all the best for the rest of the season and look forward to following his rugby journey.
