Moray Rugby Club are delighted to announce that we have entered into a long - term six figure sponsorship agreement with Gleaner.
This was the brainchild of the youngest of the three shareholders in Gleaner, Evan Scott, in memory of his grandfather, Evan Young (formerly part owner of Gleaner, before his daughter Jane and her husband Stephen Scott bought out his brother and became sole owners of the company).
Evan Senior has the status of Club Legend following his exploits whilst captain of MRFC in the seventies, and can be seen in the front row of the photo below (taken fifty years ago) next to then Club President, the late Charlie Wilken.
Evan Scott said "Gleaner are very proud to have entered into this arrangement with Moray RFC. Grandpa really loved his time with the Club, and my family is very touched by the fondness with which he is remembered.
My favourite exemplar of his Rugby prowess, and his modesty, is Mum's recollection of when he was invited for a trial to play for Scotland; he didn't go, because he didn't think he was good enough!
We look forward to seeing the Club go from strength to strength in the coming years, even though Dad remains an avid football fan, and especially a lover of Elgin City...".
Club President Fraser Andrews also commented “ Moray Rugby Club are delighted and would like to thank Gleaner Ltd and in particular Stephen, Jane and Evan Scott for such a generous sponsorship agreement. The fact that it is in memory of Evan Young, a huge and important figure in our history, is extra special and even more so in our Centenary Year.
Having had a very successful last season and experiencing an increased focus on rugby in the area, this will allow us to grow into the future.”
