Selby v Morley - kick off 2.00pm

Dennis Elam19 Dec - 16:04

Morley hope to finish 2025 on a high but Selby undefeated at home so far.

{Robin celebrates as Mickey Ryan gets his second try in September's home victory over Selby}

Morley take the short trip to Selby for the last match of 2025. Selby visited Scatcherd Lane on September 20th on a day plagued by heavy rain. Morley won 27 - 16 despite being behind twice.
Selby took an early lead with a penalty but tries from Ryan and Bowen with 1 conversion from Frankland had Morley in the lead after 27 minutes. A brace of unconverted tries from fullback Charlie Bramley regained the lead for Selby on 43 minutes.
However, in worsening conditions, Morley finished the stronger with tries from Ryan, Green and Peltier to end victors with 5 points.

It's one step forward, one step back as far as injuries are concerned. We welcome back Marcus Abbott who has been missing following a training ground accident but lose Dan Lightowler who had been one of our 5 ever-presents until now. Dan took a knock to his leg in Morley's victory over Pocklington so has to sit this match out. At 7, Ben Yates swaps places on the bench with John Estensen
The final change is in the backs at 13 where King Vuniyayawa makes his debut. He also gets to make his debut on the post match dressing room cleaning rota along with Will Kinder!

Match Preview: Selby RUFC 1st XV vs Morley

Selby welcome Morley to Sandhill Lane for the return fixture in Regional North East 2, looking to put right the result from earlier in the season when the sides met in extremely wet and difficult conditions. On that afternoon, handling was at a premium and territory proved decisive, with Morley edging a hard-fought contest played in driving rain.

Recent history suggests today’s encounter will be just as competitive. When the clubs met during the 2022 season, Selby enjoyed success at Sandhill Lane but suffered a heavy 41–14 defeat away at Morley. Those contrasting results underline how important home advantage can be in this fixture, and Selby will be keen to make it count again this afternoon.

Selby come into the game with confidence built on strong recent performances at Sandhill Lane, where they have made life difficult for visiting sides throughout the campaign. Set-piece accuracy, discipline and making the most of scoring opportunities will be key if the hosts are to reverse the earlier defeat.

The club is delighted to welcome Mayfair Security as today’s match sponsor, and we thank them for their continued support. We also extend a warm welcome to all guests attending the traditional Muffits Lunch, a festive Selby institution and a highlight of the pre-Christmas calendar.

As we approach the festive period, the club would like to wish everyone connected with Selby RUFC a very Merry Christmas, and we look forward to seeing players, supporters and friends back at Sandhill Lane on Boxing Day for the annual Exiles Match, always a fantastic occasion to renew old friendships and celebrate everything that makes the club special.

Enjoy the game and your afternoon at Selby RUFC.
