Travelling to Wharfedale for the first game of the season Morley wanted to get off to a good start, playing the basics well setting themselves up for the forthcoming cup game.

Morley arrived with virtually a full squad available, having cover and options in every position and looking to win the game but also to try out options in some positions and to ensure everyone got some game time.

The game started well for the visitors with Morley dominating the rucks, either winning the contests or forcing their opponents into errors, giving penalties away. This gave Morley options on the plays and they used these options well mixing the play between forwards and backs. It wasn't long before Morley scored in the corner. From the restart Morley took the ball into contact and without the ball going dead or out of play they managed to recycle the ball through ruck, mauls and offloads to quickly score again. This put the home side on the back foot and really pepped Morley up and with the momentum clearly with the visitors they now began to dominate the game. All the players from Morley began to get involved and with some ferocious tackling and rucking Morley retained the ball and regained the ball if they didn't have it with ease. This allowed for some creative play from the backs, brilliant support play from the forwards interacting with each other, by half time Morley were 5 tries up without reply.

Even before half time Morley had began to interchange players and this continued into the second half. With the dominance of Morley the interchanges went without disruption and this meant fresh legs were always on the playing field. Even with the interchanges the intensity of the play from the away side wasn't lost. More great tackling, support playing and scrumming meant Morley dominated the whole 50 minutes of the game, never once having to defend near their own line, barely in their own half. Morley scored a further five second half tries and thoroughly deserved their win with a very dominant performance.

Summarising; For a first game this was a brilliant display by Morley, the off season training and extra coaching clearly paying off. No players or scorers were highlighted as it would be unfair to highlight those players in an all round team performance, all 20+ players played to the best of their abilities, all playing well. There were some brilliant passages of play, particularly when in support and some outstanding tackling by individuals. Good preparation for the cup next week and if the team get a slightly tougher opponent each week and build on their performances each week it would be a great season. Well done boys.
On a separate not, the whole team wish Ben Fink well who picked up what could be a bad injury during warm up.
