Too strong for Moortown

Morley 11 - 4 Moortown

The day got off to an unfortunate start after Ethan injured his ankle in the warm up. Ethan had battled back from a previous injury and has showed a return to form in recent games and training sessions, so this was a big blow. Get well soon Ethan!

Moortown were a couple of players short, so well done to Archie, Jack Briggs and Luke for pulling on a shirt for them, and contributing in the lead up to one of their tries!

Morley got off to a lively start, with 2 excellent tries run in from distance with some effective sidesteps by Joe Frain. Nathan ended a great move picking up one of many quick balls from Jamie at scrum half to run in the third try. However Moortown picked themselves up and pulled a couple of tries back, taking advantage of some disorganisation among the Morley ranks.

Morley regrouped and Matthew Gilman capped some strong forward play from the team with a fine try in the corner to go in up at half time.

From the restart Joe Frain took off on another mazy run to cap one of his best games yet with his third try. Morley's sixth came from Joe Stead with a powerful try, confidently breaking through tacklers, to go with his assured performance in the scrum.

A flurry of tries followed from neat passing moves and unstoppable scoring runs from Will, Nathan and Owen, and one from Archie going over in a Morley shirt after some committed rucking.

Overall, a solid team performance once the defence got used to making their tackles count, on a cold day against opposition that stayed spirited and positive despite conceding tries.

Big thanks to Moortown.
