Mortimer Football Club fund raising day is a huge success.

Sunday 15th saw something of a first at the club as we held a fund raising football day at the APMF. Players, fans and locals came together, raising funds for a great cause and to say a long overdue thank you to a man who has committed time, effort, blood, sweat and tears to our fantastic football club - Chairman Adrian Keep.

Ade has been at the core of the football club for many years now and has literally done it all - not for thanks or praise but quite simply out of love for our football club and our players. He is often seen cruising around the pitches on his beloved mower and is too often taken for granted. Ade and his wife Mandy have committed so much to the club and on Sunday all present gave them the "Thank you" they both so richly deserve.

The day saw so many players who have played for the club - and a few who played against Adrian and the mighty Mortimer - over the past twenty/thirty years. The veterans fixtures saw three sides, made up of some of Readings best over 35's, compete in games which were enjoyed by all. Adrian however blasting his chance of glory from the penalty spot at the cross bar !

In the afternoon a Mortimer select 11, managed by Vice Chairman and former manager John Davies, took on newly promoted Hungerford Town. The club enjoys a special link with Hungerford and Sunday really did show that as Bobby Wilkinson's lads played in great spirit, with tremendous attitude and a great deal of respect for our club. They were a class act and their generosity was hugely appreciated by all at Mortimer, who greatly enjoyed the experience. And for all Mortimer football fans there was a chance to see local lads James Clark and Jon Boardman perform for Hungerford along with former Reading FC players Alex Pearce and Mikele Leigertwood. The final added bonus was that goals from Mike Davies and Casey Warwick saw the home side sneak a 2-1 win against their illustrious opponents.

We must extend thanks to all who came to unite and really show off what this club is about. Linked by friendship, support and respect all involved enjoyed a great day. To all who came and supported , purchased food or drink, to all who played, THANK YOU . Days like these are nothing without you and you are always welcome at the club in any capacity!

Thank you to our sponsors of the day, David Cliff Estate Agents and Budgens Supermarket. Your amazing support is greatly appreciated.

Finally we must once more thank Adrian (Ade) a club man with so much heart and passion for the cause. He has made more friends and gained more respect than he could ever imagine. Adrian and Mandy - thank you for everything and we all hope you enjoy your deserved surprise from Sundays' event.

But on a serious note Ade, sorry mate you're not allowed to take any more penalties (shocking)!!!!
