A successful start to the 2017 season for the black and reds

After an exciting start to the new season Birmingham Moseley Women were looking forward to the always competitive game against Shelford ladies, we made the 2 hour journey over to Cambridge in good spirits after a confident win the weekend before in Ashfield.

Birmingham Moseley fought hard from kick off with our number 8 Lauren Dackombe scoring within the first few minutes of the game and fly half Hannah (Bus) scoring her first of 6 conversions that day! The games flow wasn't smooth after the initial try with various knock ons from both sides and an early decline in enthusiasm, but after a quick talking to from coach Nick during some injury time Moseley switched on and continued with the early success.

The forwards worked hard in the scrums with a great effort from our debut Louise (1) who put in some excellent tackles and worked hard around the pitch.

After a scrum from a Shelford knock ok Boe (12) added more points to the board with a try half way through the first half (converted by Bus), followed by fellow centre and Back of the Match Liss (13) getting in on the action and scoring shortly after (conversion unsuccessful but hit the bar nicely).

Emily George (15) grew more and more confident throughout the game and got herself a well deserved try (converted), again followed by Liss (13) scoring her second try (converted).

Our Forward of the Match Lauren (8) then started the second half with a try straight from the kick off, a powerful run, not allowing herself to go to ground easily, paid off when she burst through several Shelford defenders and scores under the posts (converted by Bus, again!).

Liss (13) intercepted a loose Shelford pass and managed to run half the length of the pitch before passing to supporting player scrum half Mel (9) who scored the final try of the game (converted by Bus).
