Moseley win 19-0 against Deeping Devils

With the confidence built up over the past few weeks of training Moseley were ready to take on Deeping Devils, who they knew would be a fierce competitor.

Deeping kicked off to start and after multiple penalties from both sides Moseley are back to bad habits with a slow start. Deeping are on the front foot due to Moseley mistakes and Deeping kick for territory 5 minutes in and keep possession well, until, Olly (8) turns over the ball in the Moseley 22 and offloads it to Broc (15) who kicks it out at the half way line to gain metres back for the home side.

It's a Deeping win their lineout at the halfway line and after a few phases of play across the pitch Steph (6) decides she wants to make a nuisance of herself and turns the ball over, but unfortunately this hard work was not honoured when it is knocked on very shortly after, thanks though Steph, the thought was there. Deeping win their scrum and their backs ship it out to their strong 12, but she is brought down well by winger Jess (11) and Deeping press on, Moseley are finding themselves defending heavily until Vasilia (2), inspired by Steph, turns the ball over elegantly, mid-tackle, and gets it out to Broc (15) who spots a lovely gap and runs 50m until she is taken down centimetres away from the tryline by the Deeping centre, luckily Mel (10) is on-hand to support as she always is, and scores under the posts, Broc (15) then converts, 7-0.

After kick-off Moseley are off to a strong start with try-scorer Mel (10) getting her hands on the ball and streaking (fully clothed) down the pitch, until she is taken down by Deepings fullback. After another few phases Deeping steal the ball and kick downfield for Broc (15) to gather and run into the defensive wall, Nic (3) sends a beautifully long pass to Clare (13) who scores Moseleys second try of the game, which is converted again by Broc (15).

In the second half Moseley kick off to Deeping who, again, maintain possession well for the first 10 minutes, until it is dropped after their own penalty and Olly (8) scoops it up as it she owns it. Broc (15) gets her paws back on it and sends it downfield to collect herself, until the opposing 15 tackles her and the ball is flying through the air in slow motion, Sham (5) canters in gracefully to grab this ball out of the air and storm towards the tryline where she scores a contender for try of the season.

After the restart Moseley are trying to get some more points and have their sights on a bonus point try, but the Deeping scrum half makes a mess of that when she finds a gap and runs towards their tryline, but is taken down again by winger Jess (11). Deeping manage to play through the phases again until it is knocked on and Moseley win the scrum, the backs send it quickly down the line to Grace (14) on the wing and Mash (9) has come back around to support and kicks the ball downfield. The Deeping fullback keeps hold of it and they make their way back up the pitch looking to score for themselves, getting bum-twitchingly close to the tryline Moseley defend for their lives but give away another penalty 10 metres out, Sam (7) makes a great tackle to stop the Deeping prop from scoring and also causing a knock-on, Moseley win their scrum again, and get the ball into the safe hands, and foot, of Broc (15) who sends it downfield but the opposing player is high-tackled and Moseley gift the ball back to Deeping in this crucial stage. As Deeping are passing across field Jess (11) scoops up a loose ball and Clare (13) is tackled by the Deeping centre who also knocks down the ref!

Nothing much happens at the end, phases of play, ball goes around the pitch a bit, but no scores or anything of interest. Fin.
