The forwards bossed it and the backs flew, in a match that Moseley controlled throughout despite Lichfield’s continued pressure.
Moseley led the attack early on, only for a handling error to give Lichfield a quick pick-up and a 60 metre sprint to the try line. It would be the last time Moseley would be caught ball watching though, and the team’s growing confidence this year, showed, when last week’s forward of the match, Katie Mahon equalled the score with a crunching 10m dash to the line from a penalty.
Moseley used a mixture of strike runner's to create space in the backs that routinely saw the team making ground on the front foot. Each player created options, which made it difficult for Lichfield to defend and produced two tries. Moseley kicked all of the conversions during the match except for one, thanks to Nicola Sykes.
Sykes debuted at full back, and took advantage of the broken play to charge through the centres and set up Emma Shields on the wing, who successfully traversed the covering defence for 5 points.
The forwards, led by captain Steph Warner controlled the set piece and maintained an excellent tackle rate which nullified Lichfield’s attacking opportunities, and frequently created turn-overs.
It was only after a sustained 15 minutes in Moseley’s 22 near the end of the match, that Lichfield finally secured points in the second half.
Having sensed the victory, Moseley were after the bonus point. Emma Shields switched play and ran the ball out of their 22, Ali Archer continued the break away on the side line before releasing a perfectly timed kick for Hannah Bussey to chase down and bag her hatrick on the final whistle.
Many thanks to the coaching team and supporters.
