The match was played in blustery conditions up on Beirut, with the weather restricting both sides to less flowing rugby. Moseley scored the first try with Nicola Sykes attacking from fullback, scything through the Lichfield defence to touchdown under the posts. She then also converted to bring the score 7-0. Lichfield regrouped well and started to make steady progress up the pitch. Their fullback was particularly effective breaking through tackles and counter attacking at every opportunity to score a hat trick before half time, with 2 of these converted.
Half time Moseley 7 - 19 Lichfield
Lichfield continued to progress in the second half and scored a further two tries. Moseley had worked hard throughout the game, rucking well and starting to put together good passages of play. The forwards worked well to provide a platform for the backs to exploit the space out wide, with only the final pass or good covering tackles stopping further scores.
With 20 minutes to go the hard work started to pay off with Laura Knott sprinting up the wing and muscling over the line in two almost identical tries. Nicola Sykes again adding both conversions.
Moseley ended strongly and started to look like a side coming together, with lots of positives to work on in training. A final 21-31 scoreline secures a losing bonus point to start the season.
