Stunning performance by Moseley

Moseley travelled away to Olney and produced a stunning performance to claim the first victory of the season.

Moseley were a little disorganised before the game, with some issues travelling to Olney meant there was only time for a quick warm up. However, on the pitch this didn't seem to show. Olney started well, putting pressure on the Moseley defence with quick pick and drives gaining territory through strong forwards.

Moseley soaked up the pressure and started to make progress, putting into practice the attacking work from training. Olney couldn't live with Moseley's pace all over the pitch and the offloading game that Moseley played. Hannah Bussey controlled the game well from fly half, using miss passes to the wings and fullback to good effect.

The set pieces worked really well, with Moseley winning a lot of scrums and lineouts against the head, despite being the smaller pack. Although the scoreline reflects the brilliant attacking rugby played, Moseley were also excellent in defence, particularly in defending the fringes of the breakdown. At one point late in the second half Olney were camped on the Moseley line for 5 minutes. Moseley showed great character in throwing their bodies in front of the attack to keep Olney out.

Nicola Sykes amassed a personal tally of 41 points, scoring five tires and eight conversions (despite winning a 10k race in the morning!) and Clare Bowyer claimed her first hat trick. Despite only two players getting on the score sheet it really was a whole team effort to get the win.
