The Moseley squad left the club early in the morning to play their furthest away game at Lakenham Hewett. Despite the early start Moseley looked good in the opening exchanges and put together some great passages of play. Amanda Stringfellow and Ashliegh Aiston looked strong in attack, powering through tackles from players twice their size. Dani Moynes also looked effective in the centres, making ground every time she had the ball.
Emma Shields opened the scoring after quick hands across the forwards and backs to get the ball out wide. Lakenham responded with an interception try after Moseley panicked in defence. Moseley regrouped and came out strongly with Michelle Gwynne muscling her way over the line and Emma again sprinting around the defence to score.
Lakenham pulled a try back after their scrum half reacted well to a loose ball. Moseley again went on the attack and played a number of phases to make ground up the pitch. Boe Meaton, Clare Bowyer and Olly Gough were effective in taking the ball on and making yards up the pitch. Moseley backs again used their good hands to spin the ball to Laura Knott, who side stepped the defence to score under the posts. Clare Bowyer taking on the kicking duties and slotted the conversion.
Half Time Lakenham Hewett 14 - 22 Moseley
The second half was a completely different game. Moseley's defence was poor, with Lakenham taking full advantage of missed tackles to run in five tries. Moseley seemed to have completely switched off until the final ten minutes when they started to put together better passages of play. Moseley need to make sure they are switched on for the whole game and don't let the concentration slip.
A long coach trip back wasn't helped by a closure on the M6 for an accident, making it a long day. But some good spirits on the coach back and lots of talking about how to improve for the next match brought the squad together.
