Weekend Round-Up

The 1st XI continued their unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign on Saturday, clinching a hard-fought 2-1 home win against Belfast Harlequins. The match got underway at The Glade in challenging conditions with the pitch heavily saturated from the constant rain but this did not deter either side and there was plenty of skill on show for the spectators. Quins opened the scoring from a penalty corner on 15 minutes with a drag flick to the bottom corner. Mossley were not deterred and were unfortunate not to have been in front themselves with efforts from Jordan Barr, Jordan Robinson and Ryan Lyall all calling the Quins keeper into action. Mossley drew level before the half time break when great work by Ben Van Overloop earned the home side a penalty corner with Jordan Robinson fired into the net with a reverse stick strike.

The second half was shared by the two sides in terms of chances and possession however the Mossley defence of skipper Matt Anderson, Mark Moreland, Philip Kane and Matthew Steele was excellent and kept Quin's chances to a minimum. With 15 minutes left, following an open spell of play, Mossley broke forward and found Ross McIvor on the base line who lofted the ball past the advancing keeper from a narrow angle to take Mossley in front. The closing exchanges were frantic and needed a goal line clearance by Mark Moreland to keep Quins from drawing level.

The 2nd XI were on the mark against Portadown 2nd XI claiming a 7-3 win with Simon Todd getting a hat trick, Charlie McLain with a brace and Ricky Lee and Rory Laverty adding one a piece. The 3rd XI notched up a win hosting Cookstown 4th XI with goals from John Alcorn, Charlie McLain, Jordan McCrea, Callum McQuillan and Philip McMorris. The 4th XI came away from NICS with a point against their 3rd XI with goals from Nathan Brien and Steven Horne.

Saturday 20th October will see the 1st XI in Irish Senior Cup action when they travel to Dublin to take on Clontarf in Round 2 of the competition.
