Mossley were in Irish Senior Cup action this weekend. The first round draw saw the Newtownabbey side on the road to Dublin to take on Dublin University at Trinity College Sports Grounds. From the start Mossley looked the stronger of the two sides as they put the home defence under pressure and got sight of goal on a few occasions but were unable to convert their early goalscoring opportunities. Before the end of the first quarter Dublin University made the most of a swift counter attack as they took a 1-0 lead.
In the second quarter Mossley were able to make the pressure count with Simon Todd scoring and this was soon followed by Rhys Wilson with a close range finish to give the Glade Men a first half lead. Mossley held their half time lead throughout the 3rd quarter despite having to defend a number of penalty corners, two of which were cleared off the line by Mark Moreland. It wasn't until the 4th quarter that Mossley added to the scoreboard as Simon Todd added his second and then his third with two penalty corner strikes to give Mossley a 4-1 win. The result secures Mossley a 2nd round match away to Cork Church of Ireland later in the month.
The 3rd and 5th XI were also in action on Saturday in their respective league cups. The 3rd XI hosted Kilkeel 2nd XI and won 4-1 with goals coming from Ian Creighton (2), Joshua Kerr and Robert Tyrrell. The 5th XI were on the road to Sanitfield 2nd XI and came away 3-2 winners thanks to goals from Paul Turner, Saul Anderson and Andrew Kane.
